Q&A: No Spectator Rule for Weekend Games

Updated: Jan 28

As our U11-U14 players begin their Spring League games this weekend (Jan. 30), and our U8-U10, YDP players in later next month (Feb. 21), we would like to clarify our policies and expectations of all participating players, and their families. Thank you for your support!

The no spectator policy is an Oregon Youth Soccer Association (OYSA) state-wide rule that applies to all facilities participating in the winter and spring league.

  • Parents should remain in their vehicle at all times during their player’s game-time. This is a zero tolerance policy that will be enforced by field monitors.

  • As a reminder, we expect all PCU parents, players and coaching staff to abide by all regulations in place (including no spectator policies, drop-off directions, etc.), as teams could be forced to forfeit the game, subjected to fines, or removed from the league if infractions occur.

  • If our facility exceeds the number of people permitted to enter at any given time, PCU will have our Portland Parks and Recreation (PPR) permit revoked.

  • Due to current COVID-19 restrictions, our facility is currently restricted to only the exact number of players/coaching staff that are scheduled to play during that time-slot.

  • Any additional parents/spectators/community members that enter the field complex are counted towards our capacity, and will not be allowed during game-times.

Good news! PCU has purchased a VEO camera system that will allow us to record every game played at Buckman Field starting mid-January. Each field’s camera automatically tracks the ball, and will be uploaded for viewing after the game has concluded. More information coming soon!

Many teams are also streaming games live, so be sure to follow up with your player’s coach with instructions for accessing that footage.

Check before you go! OYSA has each facility listed on their website with links to every participating field’s rules and COVID-protocol. Please review these PRIOR to traveling to each away game.

We expect all PCU parents, players and coaching staff to abide by all regulations in place (including the no spectator policies, drop-off directions, etc.), as teams could be forced to forfeit the game, subjected to fines, or removed from the league if infractions occur.

This policy also applies to games played at Buckman Field.

Have additional questions? Please send us an email at pcusc@pcusc.org and we will be happy to provide additional information or clarify any of our policies. Thanks
