(Updated 12/9) PCU Club Protocols

  • We have developed and updated the following protocols in accordance with the guidance of the Oregon Health Authority (OHA). The information outlined in this document is meant to minimize risks and prioritize the health and safety of all club members, and has been updated on 12/9/20.

  • While the club is pleased to continue moving forward with the 2020-21 season, we understand and support families that may not feel comfortable participating in club activities. If you have any questions or concerns about participating or the club's protocols, please notify the club director, Shaun Figueiredo, at shaun@pcusc.org.


  • No signs or symptoms of COVID-19. Symptoms of COVID-19 include fever over 100 degrees, cough, shortness of breath, loss of taste or smell, persistent headaches, muscle or body aches, sore throat, diarrhea, congestion or runny nose, nausea, or vomiting.

  • No close contact or exposure to anyone exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19.

  • Notify Shaun Figueiredo (shaun@pcusc.org) immediately if any of the situations below occur:

- The player has tested positive for COVID-19.

- The player has COVID-19 symptoms (see above)

- The player has been in close contact with anyone exhibiting symptoms or anyone who has

tested positive with COVID-19.

  • Wear a mask (covering both mouth and nose) before, during, and immediately after all club activities.

  • Practice social distancing of 6 ft when entering and exiting the facility.

  • No group celebrations, high fives, hugs, handshakes, or non-essential contact of any kind. No spitting.

  • Do not arrive more than 5-10 minutes before your scheduled practice time, or before the designated arrival time for games. If you do, please remain in your car or outside of the field complex. After training sessions and games, return to your vehicle/pick-up area immediately. Do not linger at the fields or in common areas.

  • Place bags and equipment at least 6 ft apart. Do not touch or share anyone's equipment, water or any other items.

  • Players should wear their red PCU jersey to practice and should bring their white and black jerseys as alternate tops.

  • Use the restroom and fill up water bottles before arriving at training and games, as restrooms and water fountains may not be available at field complexes.

  • Wash hands and/or use hand sanitizer before and after all training sessions. Bring personal hand sanitizer with you to every training.

  • Ensure players are aware of and adhering to the Player Responsibilities (as noted above).

  • Check your child’s temperature 30 minutes prior to club activities.

  • Ensure all clothing, equipment, cleats, ball, shin guards, etc. are sanitized before and after every training session and game.

  • Adhere to Player Drop-Off/Pick-Up Directions (as noted below).


Parents, coaches, and club staff should notify Shaun Figueiredo (shaun@pcusc.org) immediately if any of the situations below occur:


- Player has tested positive for COVID-19.

- Payer has COVID-19 symptoms.

- Player has been in close contact with anyone exhibiting symptoms or anyone who has

tested positive with COVID-19.


If a player/coach tests positive and is asymptomatic:

  • The player/coach will be removed from club activities.

  • The player/coach should monitor daily symptoms and temperature.

  • The player/coach should not engage in exercise until evaluation and clearance from a health care provider.

  • The player/coach may return to club activities 14 days after the positive test, given no subsequent symptoms have developed during that period.


If a player/coach tests positive and is symptomatic:

  • The player/coach will be removed from club activities.

  • The player/coach should monitor daily symptoms and temperature.

  • The player/coach should not engage in exercise until evaluation and clearance from a health care provider.

  • The player/coach may return to club activities 14 days after the positive test, given that they have been free of symptoms for 10 days. If symptoms worsen, the player/coach must contact their medical provider for guidance and best recommendations.


If a player/coach develops symptoms of COVID-19:

  • The player/coach will be removed from club activities.

  • The player/coach should contact a primary care physician to inquire about COVID-19 testing.

  • If the player/coach tests negative, they may return to club activities after being symptom free for 24 hours without medication.

  • If the player/coach tests positive, follow the positive test protocols outlined above.


If a player/coach is in close contact with an individual who tests positive:

  • The player/coach will be removed from club activities.

  • The player/coach should monitor daily symptoms and temperature.

  • The player/coach should contact their health care provider to determine if there is a need for COVID-19 testing.

  • If the player/coach tests negative, they may return to club activities, given that they are symptom free. The player/coach should not be tested sooner than 5 days after the exposure incident or close contact’s positive test date, whichever came later.

  • If the player/coach tests positive, follow the positive test protocols outlined above.

  • If the close contact is a family member in the same household, the player/coach is presumed to be positive.

If a player or coach has a confirmed case or close contact with a confirmed case, we will follow all state and association guidelines as needed in order to:

  1. Temporarily suspend club activities for affected members. 

  2. Communicate with affected club members, OHA, and OYSA.

  3. Disinfect equipment and facilities.

  4. Ensure other coaches, players, parents, or staff are not infected as required.


Create and Distribute Protocols:

  • Post the PCU Club Protocols on the club website.

  • Email the PCU Club Protocols to all club members, coaches, staff and board members.

  • Host online coach and staff meetings to review the PCU Club Protocols.

  • Wear a mask (covering both their nose and mouth) before, during, and immediately after all training sessions and games.

  • Upon arrival, inquire how the athletes are feeling and utilize the club’s Attendance and Monitoring Form for every training session and game. Notify the club director if you believe a player is ill or shows symptoms of COVID-19.

  • Ensure there is no non-essential contact between players (no high fives, hugs, fist bumps, etc.). Ensure social distancing of 6ft is maintained between all coaches and players, outside of soccer activities that require a proximity of less than 6ft.

  • Ensure all players have their individual equipment appropriately spaced out.

  • Monitor players to ensure there is no sharing of equipment, including water bottles, towels, personal hygiene products, practice jerseys, etc.

  • Wash and sanitize all cones, disks, soccer balls, practice jerseys, and equipment before and after training sessions and games.

  • Wash hands and/or use hand sanitizer before and after all training sessions. Bring personal hand sanitizer with you to every training and games.


  • Individuals who have any symptoms of COVID-19 are prohibited from entering the field complex.

  • Individuals who are at risk for severe illness or with serious underlying medical conditions from attending any sporting activities are highly discouraged from attending or participating in any activities or entering the field complex.

  • Individuals who display symptoms of COVID-19, will be asked to leave the premises by a staff member. The staff member will provide the individual displaying symptoms with a face covering, face shield, or mask if needed. The staff member will help the individual minimize their contact with others while leaving the facility. Any and all areas used by the individual displaying symptoms will be immediately disinfected.

  • All individuals are required to wear a mask or face covering when 6 feet of physical distance cannot be maintained. Players are required to wear a mask or face covering that covers both the nose and mouth while participating in game activities.

  • Clear signage about masks or face coverings requirements will be posted.

  • All policies and facility information will be communicated to club members, league directors, players, participants, parents, guardians, and caregivers through the club website and via email.

  • All water fountains in the field complex will be closed. Players are encouraged to fill water bottles before entering the field complex.

Cleaning and Disinfection

  • Shared equipment will be frequently cleaned and disinfected.

  • All staff and players are required to practice healthy hygiene including, washing their hands and/or using hand sanitizer frequently, covering their sneezes and coughs, etc.

  • Staff and players are encouraged to avoid touching their eyes, nose, and mouth.

  • High-traffic areas and commonly touched surfaces in areas accessed by staff, players, and spectators will be frequently cleaned and disinfected.

  • Restrooms, when open, will be cleaned and disinfected prior to and after any league activity and regularly throughout their daily period of use.

  • Restrooms, when open, will use a “one-in-one-out” policy, where only one individual is permitted within the restroom at one time.


Distance and Occupancy:

  • All individuals in the field complex are required to maintain a physical distance of at least 6ft per person from individuals not residing in the same household.

  • Time will be provided between games, practices, and events to minimize congregating at entrances or exits.

  • Designated areas will be assigned for managers, coaches, and players (when not playing), to ensure physical distancing is maintained.

  • Each field is limited to a maximum of 50 individuals. The complex is limited to a maximum of 150 individuals.

  • Commonly touched surfaces will be sanitized and disinfected between before, in between, and after games or events. High-traffic areas such as entrances, exits, check-in tables, restrooms, and concession areas, will be cleaned and sanitized before, in between, and after subsequent games and events.
